The 2025 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) at Wesley Senior High School, Konongo, in the Ashanti Region was disrupted following a violent disturbance by candidates during the Christian Religious Studies (CRS) paper.
The candidates reportedly protested against what they perceived to be strict invigilation procedures. In the course of the unrest, students resorted to throwing stones and sachet water at teachers and invigilators, compelling them to withdraw to safety.
School authorities indicated that the incident was triggered by the enforcement of examination regulations, which some candidates considered excessively rigid.
The situation resulted in the interruption of the examination process until calm was restored. Security personnel were later called to the school to help normalise conditions on campus.

Education officials have strongly condemned the incident, stressing that such conduct undermines the integrity of the examination process and places the safety of teachers and staff at risk.
The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) is expected to conduct a review of the matter, with the possibility of subjecting scripts from the affected centre to further scrutiny.
