Serwaa Amihere, Renowed Journalist Writes to GFA Boss

Renowned Ghanaian broadcaster Serwaa Amihere has written an open letter to Ghana Football Association (GFA) President Kurt Okraku, raising serious concerns about the current state of the Ghana Premier League (GPL). Her message follows the low turnout at the much anticipated Super Clash between Kumasi Asante Kotoko and Accra Hearts of Oak.

“You have been Ghana Football Association President since 2019 and your biggest mantra was ‘Bring back the love’. But yesterday, I watched the Kotoko vs Hearts game and wasn’t impressed with the stadium attendance,” she wrote.  Serwaa noted that for Ghana’s biggest local football game to have such poor attendance, especially when compared to events like the Ashanti Region Senior High School Super Zonals Athletics Competition, is a wake up call.

She urged the GFA to move beyond slogans and implement meaningful reforms and suggested key areas for improvement:

Strengthen security at match venues

Professionally market the league to attract fans

Fairly remunerate and motivate match officials

Invest in quality playing pitches

Make stadiums safe and welcoming for families

“One of our biggest challenges in Ghana is our love for slogans with no accountability,” Serwaa emphasized, pointing out that policies often lack proper tracking systems to assess progress or fix challenges.

She ended her letter with a direct and thought provoking question to Mr. Okraku
