Samuel Dubik Mahama, Managing Director of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), has officially resigned from his position.

According to reports from GH Educate, Mahama’s resignation letter was addressed to the Board Chairman of ECG, citing personal reasons for his decision to step down.

In his resignation letter, Mahama wrote, “I am writing to formally resign from my position as Managing Director of the Electricity Company of Ghana, effective two weeks from the above date. The decision has not come easily, but after much reflection, I have concluded that it is in my best interest to step away for personal reasons.”

Over the past two years and four months, I have had the profound honour of serving this esteemed organisation, and I am truly grateful for the opportunities I have received. I want to extend my heartfelt thanks to the Board for your unwavering support and guidance throughout my tenure. I also wish to express my sincere gratitude to the President for the trust placed in me, which has been a significant aspect of my journey here.

Mahama was appointed as the Managing Director of ECG by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and assumed office on May 16, 2022. His appointment followed his previous role as a non-executive director at ECG, where he had gained valuable experience within the organization. In addition to his work at ECG, Mahama has held other roles, including non-executive director at GIHOC Distilleries and country representative for Gulfsouth Forest Products.

Mahama is a legal practitioner and a graduate of the University of Ghana. His resignation has come as a surprise to many in the energy sector, given that he had only served in the position for about two years, a relatively short period.

Despite the unexpected nature of his resignation, both ECG and government sources have remained silent on the specific circumstances surrounding this development.

Mahama’s departure has prompted ECG to prepare for a transition in leadership as soon as possible, given his two weeks’ notice period.
