DIRECTOR I & DIRECTOR II TRIAL QUESTIONS – Contemporary issues In Education Welcome to your DIRECTOR I & DIRECTOR II TRIAL QUESTIONS - Contemporary issues In Education 1. A Senior High School teacher notices that many learners are submitting assignments generated almost entirely by generative AI. The Headmaster wants to ban all AI tools immediately. However, another teacher argues that AI can support lesson planning, personalised learning and feedback if used responsibly. What would be the most appropriate educational response? Ban all forms of AI because its use automatically constitutes academic dishonesty. Allow unrestricted AI use because technology will eventually replace traditional teaching. Adopt a human-centred approach that promotes responsible AI use while addressing plagiarism, privacy, bias and overdependence. Permit only high-performing learners to use AI because they are more likely to use it responsibly. None 2. Two schools are implementing an online learning programme. School A has reliable electricity, internet connectivity and devices, while School B has frequent power interruptions and most learners have no personal devices. Which intervention would best promote equity? Give both schools exactly the same online materials and expect similar outcomes Provide School B with appropriate devices, connectivity support, teacher training and offline learning alternatives. Require learners in School B to purchase smartphones before participating. Suspend digital learning until all schools have identical technological resources. None 3. A district distributes the same number of computers to every school. However, some schools are severely deprived and have no reliable electricity, while others already have functioning computer laboratories. Which principle should guide a better resource-allocation strategy? Equality, because every school must receive exactly the same resources. Equity, because resources should respond to differences in learners' and schools' needs. Standardisation, because every school should have identical facilities. Competition, because schools should obtain resources based on academic ranking. None 4. A learner with a hearing impairment has been admitted into a mainstream classroom. The school considers the learner fully included because the learner sits in the same classroom as everyone else. Which action would demonstrate genuine inclusion? Allow the learner to sit at the back of the classroom to avoid disrupting others. Exempt the learner from most classroom activities. Provide appropriate communication support, accessible resources and meaningful participation in learning activities. Ask classmates to complete all academic work on behalf of the learner. None 5. A teacher observes that a previously active learner has become withdrawn, frequently absent and increasingly unable to concentrate. The teacher is not trained to diagnose psychological conditions. What should the teacher do? Diagnose the learner's condition and prescribe appropriate treatment. Ignore the behaviour because it is outside the teacher's professional responsibility. Observe, support, document, refer and collaborate appropriately where specialist assistance is required. Publicly discuss the learner's behaviour so that classmates can provide support. None 6. A learner privately tells a teacher that an adult has been repeatedly harming them at home and asks the teacher not to tell anyone. What should be the teacher's priority? Promise absolute secrecy because confidentiality must always be maintained. Investigate the allegation personally before informing anyone. Prioritise the learner's safety and follow established child-protection and referral procedures. Wait until the learner provides physical evidence before taking action. None 7. A school records high attendance rates, but internal assessments show that many learners cannot read fluently or perform basic calculations appropriate to their level. What does this situation most clearly demonstrate? High attendance automatically guarantees quality education. Learning poverty can exist even when learners regularly attend school. The problem is mainly caused by excessive use of technology. Examination malpractice is the primary cause of the problem. None 8. A Headteacher discovers that learners are performing poorly in foundational literacy. Instead of simply increasing the number of end-of-term examinations, the Headteacher wants to introduce a more effective improvement strategy. Which combination is most appropriate? More examinations, longer school hours and stricter punishment. Foundational literacy instruction, formative assessment, targeted interventions and teacher professional development. More homework, increased class sizes and fewer practical activities. Replacement of classroom teaching with computer-based examinations. None 9. During a leadership lesson, learners correctly memorise the definition of leadership but cannot apply leadership principles when asked to resolve a conflict among classmates. What conclusion should the teacher draw? The learners have demonstrated full competence because they know the definition. Memorisation is sufficient for competency-based education. The learners possess knowledge but have not adequately demonstrated the ability to apply it in a real situation. Leadership should be removed from the curriculum because it cannot be assessed. None 10. A teacher wants to assess whether learners understand soil Erosion. Instead of asking them to define soil erosion, she asks them to investigate soil erosion in their community and propose practical solutions. Which assessment approach is being demonstrated? Norm-referenced assessment Authentic assessment Diagnostic assessment Intelligence testing None 11. A school principal discovers that teachers are spending almost all instructional time drilling learners on likely examination questions, while practical activities, projects and critical-thinking exercises have been neglected. What contemporary assessment challenge is most evident? Teaching to the test Peer assessment Authentic assessment Self-assessment None 12. A teacher has taught the same content and methods for many years and refuses to participate in professional development activities, arguing that experience alone is sufficient. Which is the best response ? Experience makes continuous professional development unnecessary. Teachers should continuously develop professionally to respond to curriculum, technology, pedagogy and learner changes. Professional development is only necessary for newly recruited teachers. Professional development should focus exclusively on examination techniques. None 13. A school has produced graduates with good examination results, but many struggle to communicate, collaborate, solve problems and adapt in the workplace. What major issue does this situation illustrate? Excessive digitalisation Education-employment mismatch Inclusive education Climate resilience None 14. A district wants to reduce youth unemployment by strengthening practical education and encouraging learners to identify opportunities and develop innovative solutions. Which combination best supports this objective? More theoretical examinations and less practical work TVET and entrepreneurship education Elimination of vocational programmes Increased dependence on academic certificates alone None 15. A teacher is introducing lessons on environmental conservation. She asks community members to share traditional practices for protecting local natural resources and then encourages learners to compare those practices with scientifically established evidence. Why is this approach appropriate? Indigenous knowledge should always replace scientific knowledge. Indigenous knowledge should be ignored because it is not modern. Indigenous knowledge can enrich learning when integrated critically and respectfully alongside evidence-based knowledge. Traditional knowledge should be accepted as scientifically proven without verification. None 16. A school notices that learners from economically disadvantaged households have higher absenteeism, poorer access to learning materials and lower achievement. Which intervention would most directly address the underlying educational inequality? Punish absent learners more severely. Provide targeted support while improving equitable access, quality teaching and assistance where appropriate. Reduce instructional time for disadvantaged learners. Rank learners according to their household income. None 17. After repeated flooding, a school building is damaged and many learners are temporarily displaced. The Headteacher wants the school to become more resilient to future climate-related disruptions. Which approach is most appropriate? Focus only on repairing the building after every disaster. Integrate disaster preparedness, environmental education, adaptation and sustainable practices into school planning. Stop teaching environmental issues because they are outside the curriculum. Wait for external agencies to solve all future environmental problems. None 18. A school has adequate classrooms but learners frequently miss lessons because toilets are dysfunctional and there are inadequate handwashing facilities. Which conclusion is most appropriate? WASH has little relationship with educational outcomes. The school can still be considered to have high-quality education because classrooms are available. Poor WASH can contribute to illness, absenteeism, discomfort, reduced concentration and disruption of schooling. WASH is exclusively a health-sector responsibility. None 19. A disease outbreak forces a school to close temporarily. The Headteacher wants learning to continue and vulnerable learners to remain supported. Which strategy best reflects educational resilience? Wait until the school physically reopens before communicating with learners. Use multiple delivery channels, communicate with families, support teachers and adapt assessment where necessary. Continue only face-to-face lessons despite the closure. Suspend all assessment and learner support indefinitely. None 20. A Headteacher notices declining learner performance. Instead of relying solely on personal impressions, she examines attendance, assessment results, learner participation and teacher deployment before developing an intervention. What leadership approach is demonstrated? Data-informed decision-making Autocratic leadership Random decision-making Technology-driven leadership None 21. A school collects extensive data on attendance and assessment. One administrator argues that decisions should be made automatically from the data without considering teachers' professional judgement. Which response is most consistent ? Data should completely replace professional judgement. Professional judgement should completely replace data. Data should inform professional judgement rather than replace it. Data should only be used for disciplinary purposes. None 22. A school receives limited funds and must choose between purchasing additional decorative materials for the administration block and providing essential teaching and learning materials for a poorly performing department. Which decision best demonstrates effective resource management? Spend the money on decoration because the administration block represents the school. Divide the money equally between both purposes. . Prioritise resources around the most important learning needs and expected educational outcomes. Keep the money unused until more funds become available. None 23. A new educational policy is introduced, but teachers receive little preparation, resources are inadequate and stakeholders were not adequately consulted. Implementation subsequently becomes weak. Which combination best explains the likely failure? Excessive stakeholder involvement and adequate monitoring Inadequate resources, insufficient teacher preparation and lack of stakeholder involvement Effective communication and realistic timelines Strong capacity building and continuous feedback None 24. A district introduces a new curriculum. After implementation begins, monitoring reveals serious challenges in classrooms. Rather than abandoning the reform, the district uses feedback to modify implementation strategies. Which sequence best reflects effective reform implementation? Policy → Examination → Punishment → Termination Policy → Resources → Capacity Building → Implementation → Monitoring → Feedback → Adjustment Policy → Implementation → Termination → Monitoring Policy → Technology → Examination → Promotion None 25. A learner receives a sensational message on social media claiming that a particular teacher has been dismissed for misconduct. Before forwarding it to classmates, the learner checks credible sources and discovers that the claim is false. Which aspect of digital citizenship has the learner demonstrated? Blind obedience Responsible and critical participation in digital environments Digital addiction and responsible usage Online commercialisation None 26. A school adopts several international teaching practices but ensures that lessons continue to incorporate Ghanaian culture, local examples and indigenous knowledge. What educational principle is best reflected? Local identity should be completely replaced by global identity. Globalisation should be rejected in education. Education should develop learners who are locally grounded and globally competent. International practices should always take precedence over local knowledge. None 27. A school notices that female learners are discouraged from selecting certain STEM-related subjects because of stereotypes that such subjects are more suitable for males. What should school leadership do? Allow the stereotype to continue because subject choice is entirely personal. Restrict female participation to subjects traditionally chosen by girls. Challenge stereotypes, promote equal participation and encourage girls' participation in STEM. Create separate academic standards for male and female learners. None 28. A school teaches learners that honesty and responsibility are important values. However, learners are never given opportunities to apply these values to real-life ethical dilemmas. What improvement would be the best reflection? Increase the number of definitions learners must memorise. Give learners opportunities to apply ethical reasoning to real-life situations. Remove values education from the curriculum. Assess values exclusively through multiple-choice questions. None 29. A school is planning for the next decade. Its leaders want learners to remain relevant in a rapidly changing technological, economic and social environment. Which strategy best reflects the future trends? Focus exclusively on examination grades and memorisation. Combine technology with competency-based learning, lifelong learning, wellbeing, responsible digital participation and global citizenship. Replace teachers completely with artificial intelligence. Avoid technological developments to preserve traditional education. None 30. A newly appointed Headmaster is asked to improve the overall quality of a school experiencing poor learning outcomes, unequal participation, teacher development gaps and inefficient resource use. Which approach would best reflect the contemporary educational leadership? Focus exclusively on examination results and discipline. Prioritise technology acquisition above all other interventions. Use evidence, collaboration, accountability, instructional leadership, equity, innovation and measurable outcomes to guide improvement. Delegate all educational decisions to external organisations.
