GES Opens Applications for Teacher Promotions

The Ghana Education Service (GES) has announced the opening of applications for the promotion of teaching staff to higher ranks within the service.

In a statement from GES headquarters in Accra, signed by Prof. Smile Dzisi (Mrs.), Acting Deputy Director-General (MS), on behalf of the Acting Director-General of GES. GES invited suitably qualified teachers and officers to apply for promotion to the positions of Deputy Director, Assistant Director I, Assistant Director II, and Principal Superintendent.

Qualifications

Deputy Director: Applicants must have been promoted to Assistant Director I in or before 2021 and have served continuously since then, excluding periods of approved leave.

Assistant Director I: Applicants must have been promoted to Assistant Director II in or before 2021 and served continuously since.

Assistant Director II: Applicants must have attained the rank of Principal Superintendent in or before 2021 and served continuously since.

Principal Superintendent: Applicants must have reached the rank of Senior Superintendent I in or before 2021 and served continuously since. Degree holders with approved undergraduate qualifications will be automatically placed on this rank.

The GES further clarified that teachers with Master’s or PhD qualifications may apply out of turn, provided their programmes fall within the approved GES course of study.

Master’s/PhD certificates must not have been obtained before the applicant’s last promotion.

For Assistant Director I, Assistant Director II, and Deputy Director, the certificate must have been obtained in or before 2022.

Application process starts from 11th September, 2025 and ends at 2nd October, 2025.

Required documents include:

A passport-sized photograph (JPEG, JPG, or PNG format).

Last promotion/appointment/upgrading letter.

Highest academic certificate used for the promotion (in PDF format).

All documents, except the photograph, must be clear, legible, and in PDF.

GES has urged all applicants to carefully check their eligibility and ensure that uploaded documents meet the stated requirements before submission. Incomplete applications or late submissions may not be considered.
