A shocking incident unfolded at Adventist Senior High School in Kumasi on Friday, April 4, 2025, when a male student allegedly brought a gun to school and shot a female classmate. The shooting happened during the first break at around 9:30 am.
According to accounts from other students, Bernard Amoabeng retrieved the weapon from his school bag and threatened a classmate, Samuel Manu. As Samuel tried to deflect the gun, it discharged and hit Suzzy Pinamang in the face. She bled heavily and was rushed first to Kwadaso SDA Hospital, then referred to Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital.
Police from the Suame District responded swiftly and arrested the suspect. The origins of the firearm remain under investigation.
The incident sparked strong reactions from the Ghanaian public. Many have lamented over the breakdown of discipline in schools, with some blaming the abolition of corporal punishment.
Others are questioning how the student obtained the weapon and there are already speculations about his possible connection to a police officer. Concerned Ghanaians are calling for divine protection, school reforms, and a return to moral and religious guidance in education.
