Rt. Hon. Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin has been re-elected as the Speaker of Ghana’s 9th Parliament, marking the continuation of his distinguished service to the country’s legislature.

Having served as the Speaker of the 8th Parliament of Ghana, Rt. Hon. Bagbin played a pivotal role in handling the complexities of a hung parliament, a situation that demanded exceptional leadership, diplomacy, and the ability to foster consensus among members of opposing political divides. Ahead of his re-election, John Dramani Mahama, the President-elect from the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the 2024 general elections, appealed to NDC members in Parliament to rally behind Rt. Hon. Bagbin’s candidacy. Mahama lauded his leadership qualities and emphasized the need for continuity to strengthen Ghana’s legislative processes.

In his acceptance speech, Rt. Hon. Bagbin expressed profound gratitude to John Dramani Mahama for the trust and confidence reposed in him.
