MINORITY INVITES BAWUMIA TO DEBATE ON MID-YEAR BUDGET REVIEW

Dr. Bawumia in Parliament of Ghana

The Vice President of Ghana, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has been invited to a debate on the mid-year budget review in Parliament on Thursday, 25th of July, 2024.

This was contained in a letter sighted on the official X (twitter) page of Mr. Kwame Agbodza who is the opposition NDC’s Member of Parliament for the Adaklu Constituency.

According to the letter, the NDC Minority in Parliament wishes to have the Vice President participate in a debate of the MId-Year Fiscal Policy Review of the 2024 Budget Statement and Economic Policy of the government of Ghana.

A short introductory statement that preceded the letter on Mr. Agbodza’s X (twitter) page read:

We look forward to welcoming him to the chamber tomorrow at 10 O’clock in the forenoon, to defend his abysmal record of economic mismanagement.

According to the Minority, the practice of inviting the sitting Vice President to engage in a debate on the floor of Parliament is not against the rules of the house.

Their invitation, as stated in the letter, is in pursuance to Dr. Bawumia’s recent call for a debate on the economy. This, then, is meant to offer the Presidential Candidate the opportunity and platform to debate and to also account for his period of stewardship over the last seven and a half years as Chairman of the Economic Management Team.

But the BIG questions are:

Will Dr. Bawumia honor this invitation?

Does the Minority really mean this and are they even ready for such an encounter with the Economic guru?

Your guess is as good as mine…
