Asante Kotoko head coach Eric Tinkler has resigned from his position with immediate effect, just a day after the club’s 2–0 defeat to Aduana FC in the Ghana Premier League.
The South African coach requested to be released from his contract for personal reasons, with the Board of Directors of Asante Kotoko agreeing to the request.
According to a statement from the club, both parties held discussions in an attempt to prevent the separation, but ultimately respected Tinkler’s decision to step down.
Tinkler’s departure comes after only four Ghana Premier League matches in charge of the Porcupine Warriors.
During his brief spell, Kotoko recorded:
- 1 win
- 2 draws
- 1 defeat
The defeat came on Sunday, September 27, when Kotoko lost 2–0 to Aduana FC at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium. Stephen Amankona gave Aduana an early lead before Seidu Saana added a second goal late in the match.
The result was Kotoko’s first defeat of the 2026/27 Ghana Premier League campaign.
Tinkler had criticised Kotoko’s performance
Following Sunday’s defeat, Tinkler expressed disappointment with the team’s performance and pointed to mistakes that contributed to the loss.
The coach said Kotoko conceded a “cheap” goal and failed to take advantage of the opportunities they created after Aduana were reduced to 10 men.
He also said his players were “jittery” before the opening goal and accused them of giving the ball away cheaply.
Less than a day later, his departure from the club was confirmed.
Kotoko to continue under existing technical structure
The club says it remains committed to its sporting objectives and that its technical team will continue implementing its sporting strategy under Director of Football Stanley Purl Menzo while plans for the next stage are pursued.
Kotoko are scheduled to host Karela United on Thursday, October 1, at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in their next league fixture.
Kotoko have now gone through another change in the head-coaching position after Karim Zito resigned earlier in 2026, followed by Prince Yaw Owusu’s resignation as interim coach in April.
