This season is particularly intriguing on the touchline, with nine clubs beginning the campaign under new managers, creating a fascinating mix of established coaches, rising managers and new faces in English football’s top flight.

Mikel Arteta – Arsenal
Mikel Arteta is currently the longest-serving manager in the Premier League, having taken charge of Arsenal in December 2019.
His biggest achievement came last season when he finally led Arsenal to the 2025/26 Premier League title, ending the club’s 22-year wait for the championship.
Now the challenge is even greater: defending it.
Arsenal are attempting to win consecutive league titles for the first time in more than 90 years.
Unai Emery – Aston Villa
Unai Emery remains in charge at Aston Villa after transforming the club into a regular European contender.
The Spaniard has won the Europa League four times and added another major European triumph with Villa in 2025/26.
However, Villa’s opening weekend has already presented a challenge, with Brighton beating them 4-0.
Marco Rose – Bournemouth
Marco Rose takes over at Bournemouth after Andoni Iraola’s successful spell at the club.
Rose arrives with extensive Bundesliga experience, having managed Borussia Dortmund, RB Leipzig and Borussia Mönchengladbach.
He now faces the task of building on Bournemouth’s best-ever Premier League finish.
Keith Andrews – Brentford
Keith Andrews continues his work at Brentford after being promoted internally to head coach in 2025.
A former Republic of Ireland international, Andrews previously worked as a set-piece coach before moving into the top job.
He guided Brentford to ninth place last season, equalling their highest-ever Premier League finish.
Fabian Hurzeler – Brighton
At just 33, Fabian Hurzeler remains one of the youngest managers in the Premier League.
The German has already established a strong tactical identity at Brighton and guided the club into European competition.
His Brighton side could hardly have started the new season better, thrashing Aston Villa 4-0 in the opening weekend.
Xabi Alonso – Chelsea
One of the biggest managerial appointments of the summer is Xabi Alonso at Chelsea.
The former Liverpool, Real Madrid and Bayern Munich midfielder arrives with a remarkable managerial CV that includes an unbeaten domestic double with Bayer Leverkusen in 2023/24.
Chelsea will hope Alonso can bring that success to Stamford Bridge.
Frank Lampard – Coventry City
Frank Lampard returns to the Premier League with newly promoted Coventry City.
The Chelsea legend guided Coventry to promotion after taking charge in November 2024.
Lampard’s challenge now is to keep Coventry in the Premier League.
Pierre Sage – Crystal Palace
Pierre Sage is one of the newer faces in the Premier League.
The French coach took charge of Crystal Palace in June 2026 after previous managerial experience with Lyon and Lens.
His arrival marks a new chapter for Palace following Oliver Glasner’s departure.
David Moyes – Everton
David Moyes is enjoying his second spell at Everton.
The experienced Scottish manager returned to Goodison Park in January 2025 and remains one of the most experienced coaches in the Premier League.
His challenge this season is to add greater attacking threat to an Everton side known for defensive resilience.
Alvaro Arbeloa – Fulham
Alvaro Arbeloa is another fascinating new appointment.
The former Real Madrid and Liverpool defender returned to the Premier League as Fulham head coach in July 2026.
Having worked extensively within Real Madrid’s coaching structure, Arbeloa now gets his first major opportunity as a Premier League manager.
Sergej Jakirovic – Hull City
Sergej Jakirovic guided Hull City back to the Premier League through the Championship play-offs.
And he has already made a huge impression.

Gary O’Neil – Ipswich Town
Gary O’Neil took charge of Ipswich Town in June 2026 after Kieran McKenna’s departure.
O’Neil has previous Premier League experience with Bournemouth and Wolverhampton Wanderers and will now attempt to establish Ipswich in the top flight.
Ipswich began their campaign with a victory over Sunderland.
Daniel Farke – Leeds United
Daniel Farke remains at Leeds United after guiding them back to the Premier League.
The German has twice won promotion from the Championship with Norwich and has now achieved the feat with Leeds.
His immediate objective is to ensure Leeds avoid another relegation battle.
The club began the new campaign with a 1-0 victory over Nottingham Forest.
Andoni Iraola – Liverpool
Andoni Iraola faces arguably the biggest challenge of his managerial career after succeeding Arne Slot at Liverpool.
The Spaniard built an impressive reputation during his time at Bournemouth, guiding the club into European competition.
His Liverpool reign began with a dramatic 2-2 draw against Newcastle United, with Dominik Szoboszlai scoring a 99th-minute penalty.
Enzo Maresca – Manchester City
Enzo Maresca has taken over from Pep Guardiola at Manchester City.
That alone makes his appointment one of the biggest managerial stories of the season.
Maresca has already experienced Premier League success with Chelsea and previously worked within Manchester City’s coaching structure.
His City career began with a dramatic 2-1 victory over Bournemouth, sealed by Josko Gvardiol’s stoppage-time winner.
Michael Carrick – Manchester United
Michael Carrick is now permanently in charge at Manchester United after returning to the club in January 2026.
The former United midfielder has extensive experience at Old Trafford, both as a player and coach.
However, his first full Premier League campaign has started badly.
United lost 2-0 to newly promoted Hull City, leaving Carrick with an immediate problem to solve.
Matthias Jaissle – Newcastle United
Matthias Jaissle is the newest Premier League manager.
He was appointed Newcastle United head coach on 5 August 2026, replacing Eddie Howe.
The 38-year-old German arrives with impressive achievements from Austria and Saudi Arabia, including league titles with RB Salzburg and two AFC Champions League triumphs with Al-Ahli.
His first Premier League match ended in a dramatic 2-2 draw with Liverpool.
Oliver Glasner – Nottingham Forest
Oliver Glasner has moved from Crystal Palace to Nottingham Forest.
The Austrian manager has already won major European silverware, having guided Eintracht Frankfurt to the Europa League title.
Forest will hope his experience can help them push towards the upper half of the Premier League.
Regis Le Bris – Sunderland
Regis Le Bris continues as Sunderland manager after guiding the club back to the Premier League.
He achieved promotion in dramatic fashion through the Championship play-offs and then helped Sunderland secure European qualification during their first season back in the top flight.

Roberto De Zerbi – Tottenham Hotspur
Roberto De Zerbi took over at Tottenham towards the end of the 2025/26 season and remains in charge for the new campaign.
The Italian previously made history at Brighton by guiding them to their highest-ever Premier League finish and their first European qualification.
Tottenham, however, endured a nightmare opening weekend, losing 3-0 to Brentford.
De Zerbi will now be expected to turn things around quickly.
