The Ghana Education Service (GES) has officially released the approved academic calendar for the 2026/2027 academic year for all Senior High Schools (SHSs) and Senior High Technical Schools (SHTSs) across the country.
In a letter dated 1st June 2026 and signed by the Deputy Director-General (Management Services), Prof. Smile Dzisi, the Service informed all Regional Directors of Education about the release of the new academic calendar. The directive forms part of preparations for the upcoming academic year and aims to ensure smooth planning and implementation in second-cycle institutions nationwide.
According to the letter, Regional Directors have been tasked to communicate the approved calendar to all Heads of Senior High Schools and Senior High Technical Schools through their respective Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Directors of Education. This is expected to enable school authorities to adequately prepare for academic and administrative activities for the new school year.
The release of the academic calendar provides important guidance for students, teachers, parents, and school administrators on key dates and activities, including reopening, vacation periods, examinations, and other academic programmes. Educational stakeholders often rely on the calendar to plan effectively throughout the academic year.
GES indicated that the approved calendar has been attached to the official communication and urged all relevant authorities to ensure its timely dissemination and implementation. The Service believes the calendar will contribute to improved coordination and effective management of academic activities in second-cycle institutions.
The announcement comes as government continues efforts to strengthen the quality of education and improve learning outcomes in Senior High and Technical Schools across Ghana. School heads, teachers, students, and parents are expected to familiarize themselves with the calendar once it is circulated at the regional and district levels.
“Management formally writes to inform you of the approved 2026/2027 Academic Calendar for all Senior High Schools (SHSs) and Senior High Technical Schools (SHTSs),” the GES letter stated.
