Asante Mampong Welcomes New Mamponghene as Queenmother Outdoors Leslie Nkansah Osei-Bonsu as the Occupant of the Silver Stool

The Queenmother of Asante Mampong, Nana Agyakomaa Difie II,

has officially nominated and outdoored Leslie Nkansah Osei-Bonsu as the new Mamponghene and occupant of the Silver Stool. His nomination follows the passing of the late Daasebre Osei Bonsu II in April this year.

The traditional ceremony took place on Monday at the Mampong Palace, where sacred rites were performed to affirm his nomination in accordance with Asante custom. The process now awaits the formal approval of the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, under whose authority the Mampong stool falls.

The outdooring, marked by drumming, dancing, and rich cultural display, brought together elders, royals, and citizens of Mampong to witness the symbolic transition of leadership. It represented both a continuation of ancestral lineage and the beginning of a new era for the Mampong Traditional Area.

Born on 14th March 1974, Mr. Leslie Nkansah Osei-Bonsu combines a strong traditional heritage with modern academic and professional expertise. He began his education at City of Kumasi School before continuing to Prempeh College. He later graduated from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) with a Bachelor of Science degree in Geometric Engineering.

His thirst for knowledge took him beyond Ghana’s borders, earning a Master’s degree in Geo-Information and Earth Observation from the University of Twente in the Netherlands and a second Master’s degree in Computational Science and Engineering from the University of Munich, Germany.

With over two decades of experience, Mr. Osei-Bonsu currently serves as the Product and Service Group Manager at GAF AG in Germany, where he leads projects in geospatial technology, software systems, and digital engineering. His blend of tradition and innovation is seen by many as a valuable asset for leadership in the modern age.

His nomination comes at a crucial time for Mampong, following the passing of the late Daasebre Osei Bonsu II — a highly respected chief whose reign was marked by wisdom, humility, and an unwavering commitment to development. His passing in April 2025, at age 86, marked the end of an era for Asanteman.

Earlier this year, the Mampong Traditional Council and the Bretuo Dynasty formally informed the Asantehene of the late chief’s death at the Manhyia Palace. The introduction of Mr. Osei-Bonsu as the next Mamponghene now ushers in hope, continuity, and renewed commitment to the service of Mampong and Asanteman.
