Hon. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, the Foreign Affairs Minister and Member of Parliament for North Tongu held a meeting on Wednesday, July 16, with Chukwudi Jude Ihenetu, the Nigerian national at the centre of a viral video in which he claimed intentions to establish an “Igbo Kingdom” in Ghana following an alleged land acquisition.

Chukwudi Jude Ihenetu clarified during the meeting, that the controversial remarks were part of an old 2013 interview, which he now deeply regrets. He emphasized that he no longer harbours any such intention and that he has not purchased any land in Ghana for the purpose of creating a separate kingdom.

He extended a heartfelt apology to the President, Government, traditional authorities, and the people of Ghana for the public anxiety caused by the resurfaced video and acknowledged the inappropriateness of his past statements.
Hon. Ablakwa reaffirmed Ghana’s long-standing commitment to a peaceful, hospitable, and Pan-African identity, which welcomes Africans and people of African descent from across the world. However, he emphasized that Ghana’s hospitality must be matched by respect for national unity, rule of law, and cultural harmony.

The lawmaker stressed the importance of peaceful coexistence and urged the public to avoid commentary that could inflame tensions or promote xenophobia. He called for calm and reminded citizens of the enduring bond of friendship between Ghana and Nigeria.
“This is a moment to affirm our shared African identity and solidarity,” he noted. “Let us work together to prevent division and preserve our mutual respect.”
