Sekyere Kumawu Education Directorate Distributes Pads to Schools for Female Students

On Monday, June 24, 2024, the Sekyere Kumawu Education Directorate distributed Yazz Pads to schools for female students at an event held at the Kumawu Presbyterian Church. This significant event aimed to promote menstrual hygiene and support the educational journey of female learners in the district.

The occasion was graced by several dignitaries, including Mr. Kwame Oduro-Owusu, the District Director of Education; Miss Juliana Asantewaa Addo, the District Girl-Child Coordinator; Mr. Dickson Agyei Baffour, School Health Education Program Coordinator; and the Director of CHRAJ. Also in attendance were headteachers, students, and other notable members of the community.

Mr. Kwame Oduro-Owusu delivered an address at the occasion. In his speech, he emphasized the importance of menstrual hygiene and the need for female students to maintain personal cleanliness, especially during their menstrual periods. He highlighted that good menstrual hygiene is crucial for the health and well-being of female learners and plays a significant role in ensuring their regular attendance and participation in school activities.

Mr. Oduro-Owusu further revealed that the Yazz Pads being distributed were generously donated by Mr. Kwesi Sarfo, a native of Kumawu currently residing in Canada. He expressed his sincere appreciation to Mr. Sarfo for his kindness and for supporting the female learners within the Sekyere Kumawu Education Directorate.

Mr. Oduro-Owusu also called upon other individuals and organizations with the means to join in supporting the Directorate’s initiatives aimed at improving educational outcomes for students.

The distribution of pads included several schools, such as Kumawu Benevolent Islamic Basic School, Kumawu Anglican School, and Oyoko D/A JHS, among others.

The headteachers and students from these schools expressed their happiness and gratitude for receiving the pads. They acknowledged the positive impact this support would have on the lives of female students, helping them manage their menstrual cycles more comfortably and confidently, thereby reducing absenteeism and enhancing their academic performance.

It was noted at the event that the Sekyere Kumawu Education Directorate is making a significant contribution to the well-being and educational success of female students. This initiative is a step forward in ensuring that all students, regardless of gender, have the opportunity to achieve their full potential.
