President John Dramani Mahama paid a visit to Vice President Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang in London on Sunday, 11th May, 2025 as part of a special Mother’s Day tribute.
Prof Opoku-Agyemang, who is recovering after a period of illness, is currently on medical leave abroad. President Mahama shared news of his visit in a post on social media, praising her strength and wishing her a speedy return to her official duties.
“A special Mother’s Day greeting to my Vice President, Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, whom I had the pleasure of visiting earlier this morning,” he wrote. “She is taking a deserved rest after recovering from illness and looking forward to resuming her duties soon.”
The President was accompanied by Finance Minister Dr Cassiel Ato Forson and Adaklu MP Kwame Governs Agbodza.
The visit appears to have reassured many Ghanaians, following weeks of public concern over the Vice President’s health. President Mahama’s message was widely shared, with supporters sending warm wishes to the his wife, Lordina, Vice President Prof. Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, and all mothers across the country.

The Vice President Prof. Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang has been on leave since early April after medical advice prompted her to seek further treatment in the UK. Her team has not yet announced a date for her return.
