Hon. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, the Member of Parliament for North Tongu, has extended his commitment to empowering the youth by donating various items to members of his constituency. The donations were made under the theme “North Tongu’s Youth Empowerment,” aiming to equip young people with essential tools to enhance their skills and foster self-reliance.
The event, which took place during a durbar, was attended by prominent dignitaries, including Prof. Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, the running mate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) for the 2024 presidential election. Other notable attendees included North Tongu NDC executives, traditional leaders, and the youth of North Tongu, who gathered to witness the significant gesture by their MP.
During the ceremony, Hon. Okudzeto Ablakwa presented laptops to final-year tertiary students within his constituency. He stressed that this initiative is focused at supporting their educational pursuits and enable them to compete effectively in a technology-driven world. In addition, sewing machines and hairdryers were presented to young individuals undergoing apprenticeship training in the community.
Hon. Ablakwa also made cash donations to support local traders, underscoring his commitment to strengthening small businesses in North Tongu. He expressed his dedication to continuing these initiatives, highlighting that the welfare and progress of his constituency’s youth remain a priority. “I am prepared to donate more equipment and resources to empower the youth in our community,” he remarked, inspiring applause and appreciation from attendees.
Prof. Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, serving as the special guest of honor, commended Hon. Ablakwa for his impactful contributions to the youth. She lauded his efforts in providing the younger generation with tools to become self-sufficient and economically independent, which she described as crucial for their livelihood. Prof. Opoku-Agyemang emphasized the importance of such grassroots support and its role in building a resilient community.
She further took the opportunity to outline President John Dramani Mahama’s vision for national youth empowerment under an NDC government. She reiterated Mahama’s commitment to expanding support for young people, which includes the National Apprenticeship Programme, the “1 Million Coders” initiative, laptops distribution intervention for students, and the removal of admission fees.
Additionally, she highlighted proposed incentives for startups, a robust job creation agenda, and many more that are captured in the 24-hour economy concept, aimed at broadening employment opportunities across Ghana.
