The Konongo-Mampong Diocesan Catholic Youth Organization (CYO) has successfully organised a three-day Leadership Training and Orientation Programme for 106 Parish and Deanery Officers, aimed at strengthening the leadership of CYO and enhancing effective service within the Church. The impactful programme took place from Friday, 10th to Sunday, 12th April, 2026, drawing participation from across the Diocese.
To ensure effective coordination and participation, the Diocese was strategically divided into three training centres — Jamasi, Mamponteng, and Donyina — allowing for broader engagement and effective facilitation. This decentralised approach ensured that participants received adequate attention and actively engaged in all sessions.
The Jamasi Centre hosted participants from the Jamasi and Mampong Deaneries, while the Mamponteng Centre catered for officers from the Mamponteng and Boamang Deaneries. The Donyina Centre, held at Asienimpong, brought together participants from the Ejisu, Effiduase, and Konongo Deaneries, making the programme inclusive and well-coordinated across the Diocese.
Throughout the training, participants were taken through a series of carefully selected and practical topics designed to equip them for leadership and service. These included Minutes and Report Writing, Conflict Resolution, Programme Planning, Finance and Budgeting, CYO as Business – Dos and Don’ts, CYO Ceremonies/Methods and Techniques, as well as Leadership Development and Mentorship.
The sessions were highly interactive and insightful, giving participants the opportunity to share experiences, learn practical leadership skills, and develop strategies to address challenges within their respective Units, Parishes, and Deaneries.
The training also encouraged teamwork, accountability, and innovation among the CYO Officers and all Crusaders.
A major highlight of the programme was a surprise visit by Snr. Crusader Sebastian Amponsah-Frimpong, a distinguished former leader of the CYO who served actively from the 1980s to the 1990s. As a former Diocesan Chairman of Kumasi Archdiocese, Former National Internal Auditor, and Former National Vice Chairman, his presence inspired participants greatly.

He actively engaged in the training sessions and shared his rich experience, offering valuable guidance and motivation.
The training programme was spiritually crowned with Holy Mass celebrated at the various centres, bringing together participants, Parish Priests, and parishioners.

In a sermon, Rev. Fr. Sylvester Oppong Boateng, Parish Priest of Donyina and Diocesan CYO Chaplain, urged participants to apply the knowledge and skills acquired to strengthen their Units, Parishes, and Deaneries, while promoting discipline and unity within the Church.
Rev. Fr. Sylvester also congratulated the Diocesan Management Board, facilitators, and participants for the successful organisation of the programme. He further expressed gratitude to the Bishop, Most Rev. John Opoku-Agyemang, Parish Priests, Deans, Youth Chaplains, and parishioners across all centres for their immense support. The programme stands as a strong testament to the Diocese’s commitment to youth empowerment, leadership development, and building a vibrant future for the Church.
