Dr. Eric Nkansah, GES Director-General, Removed from Office

Dr. Eric Nkansah, the Director-General of the Ghana Education Service (GES), has officially been removed from office.

Dr. Nkansah’s tenure with the GES began in October 2022 when he was appointed as Acting Director-General by His Excellency Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo. Following a brief period in an acting capacity, he was confirmed as the substantive Director-General in January 2023.

During his tenure, Dr. Nkansah provided various initiatives aimed at improving education administration in Ghana. His leadership saw efforts to address challenges within the education sector, including teacher welfare, school infrastructure development, and curriculum reforms.

Dr. Nkansah’s role as Director-General officially ended on Sunday, January 26, 2025, when a new Director-General was appointed. Although the details surrounding the decision to remove him from office remain unclear, his departure marks a significant change in the leadership of the Ghana Education Service.

Many stakeholders, including teachers, parents, and education experts, are eager to see how the new appointee will navigate the challenges and opportunities in Ghana’s education system.
