Accra Academy has involved the police in investigations after a video showed a student whipping a colleague with a cutlass.
Management of Accra Academy has confirmed that it is working with the police following the circulation of a disturbing video that captures a student allegedly flogging another with a cutlass.
In a statement, the school assured parents and guardians that the matter is being taken seriously. “We understand the concerns raised and want to assure everyone that the issue is receiving urgent attention,” the statement read.
The incident, which reportedly took place on January 17, 2025, only came to the school’s attention after the video surfaced on social media. Following this, the victims formally reported the attack.
The school has identified all students involved and engaged their parents, some of whom have already provided statements. The main perpetrator has been handed over to the police for further investigations.
Authorities confirmed that the students involved are day students and have been asked to stay away from school while the investigation continues. The machete used in the attack was brought from home, not from the school’s premises.
Accra Academy’s disciplinary committee is conducting a thorough inquiry, and the school has assured the public that appropriate measures will be taken to prevent a recurrence.
