The Otumfuo Community Reading Challenge (OCRC) has reached an exciting milestone as it enters the semi-final stage, where 10 schools representing various districts and communities will compete in this prestigious contest.
This year marks the third edition of the highly anticipated Otumfuo Community Reading Challenge, dubbed “Silver Jubilee Edition” in honor of His Majesty Otumfuo Osei Tutu II. This special edition commemorates the 25th anniversary of His Majesty’s ascension to the Golden Stool.
The journey to the semi-finals has been both challenging and inspiring. The initial phase of the competition saw 60 qualifying districts and communities, each showcasing their reading prowess in Asante Twi and English Language. These 60 participants were whittled down to 40 through a series of rigorous contests. The 40 remaining districts and communities then faced off once again, with the competition becoming increasingly fierce as it progressed. Only 20 districts and communities managed to secure a spot in the quarter-final stage, where they once more demonstrated their skills in a bid to advance further in the competition.
At the quarter-final stage, the competition was especially intense, as the 20 qualifying districts and communities went head-to-head to secure a place in the semi-finals. After a spirited contest, the number was reduced to the 10 best-performing districts and communities, who have now earned the opportunity to compete in today’s semi-final round.
These 10 semi-finalist communities will contest today, 4th September 2024, at the CCB Auditorium at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST). The stakes are high, as the top 5 districts and communities that emerge victorious from today’s semi-final round will advance to the grand finale.
