The Ghana Education Service (GES) has announced the release of 2023 Capitation Grant arrears to the various accounts of District Education Directorates for onward disbursement to schools.
In a letter dated 14 September 2026 and addressed to all Regional Directors, GES Management said the outstanding Capitation Grant funds for 2023 had been transferred to the accounts of the District Education Directorates.
The letter further indicated that the funds transferred to the District accounts include the Sports and Culture component for District Offices. However, the Regional Sports and Culture components have been transferred to designated accounts of the respective Regional offices.
GES has therefore directed Regional Directors to ensure that the funds are transferred to schools on or before the reopening of the first term of the 2026/2027 academic year, to enable Heads of Basic Schools to operate seamlessly.
A letter sighted by GH Educate also indicates that a team from GES Headquarters will be visiting the regions to monitor the disbursement of the funds. Regional Directors have consequently been urged to ensure that the funds are transferred to the schools immediately.
The letter was signed by Prof. Smile Dzisi (Mrs.), Deputy Director-General (MS), for the Director-General of GES.
