GES Opens 2026 Teacher Promotion Application Portal from Director II to Director I

The Ghana Education Service (GES) has officially opened the 2026 promotion application process for teaching staff seeking promotion to the ranks of Director II and Director I.

According to the GES, the promotion exercise is being conducted in accordance with the President’s directive on decoupling positions from ranks and the new Scheme of Service for the Ghana Education Service.

The Service indicated that eligible officers and teachers will be considered for promotion based on the relevant eligibility requirements, professionalism, competence, performance, experience and successful completion of the prescribed assessment process.

Promotion to Director II

Applicants seeking promotion to the rank of Director II must meet the following requirements:

  1. Be a serving professional teacher of the Ghana Education Service.
  2. Be on the rank of Deputy Director and have served on that rank for at least four years.
  3. Have a satisfactory work history, proven performance and exemplary conduct.
  4. Possess the requisite academic and professional qualifications, including a minimum of a Master’s degree in Education, Management, Administration, Social Science or another relevant discipline.
  5. Have a satisfactory 2025 Staff Performance Appraisal Report, with an average PASS score of 70%.
  6. Pass the aptitude test conducted by the Ghana Education Service.
  7. Pass a selection interview conducted by the Public Services Commission in consultation with the Ghana Education Service Council.

Promotion to Director I

For officers seeking promotion to Director I, the GES has also outlined specific eligibility requirements.

Applicants must have served for a minimum of four years on the grade of Director II. They must also demonstrate satisfactory work history, proven performance and exemplary conduct.

Additionally, applicants must have a satisfactory 2025 Staff Performance Appraisal Report with an average PASS score of 70%, pass the GES aptitude test and successfully complete the selection interview conducted by the Public Services Commission in consultation with the Ghana Education Service Council.

How to Apply for the 2026 Promotion

Eligible officers are required to complete the online application form through the application link provided by the Ghana Education Service or by scanning the QR code contained in the official advertisement.

Applicants are required to upload a recent passport-sized photograph together with their last promotion letter or appointment letter to their current grade, as applicable.

The GES has further directed that all uploaded documents must be in PDF format, with the exception of the passport-sized photograph. Applicants are therefore encouraged to ensure that their documents are clear and properly prepared before submitting their applications.

Application Period and Deadline

The application window officially opens on 19th August 2026 and closes on 2nd September 2026.

This means eligible officers seeking promotion to either Director II or Director I have a limited period within which to complete and submit their applications.

Applicants are encouraged to carefully review the eligibility requirements and ensure that all required documents are available before starting the online application process.
