A teacher of Nyinahin Catholic Senior High School in the Ashanti Region has been arrested by the police following the circulation of a viral video showing the alleged assault of a female student.
The suspect, identified as Eric Buernortey Apaflo, 39, was arrested by a patrol team from the Nyinahin District Police Command on June 8, 2026, after reports emerged that he had assaulted an 18-year-old student, Patience Chibu.

According to a statement issued by the Ashanti Regional Police Command, preliminary investigations indicate that the suspect, who serves as a caretaker of the school’s hostel, confronted the student and some male students over alleged misconduct within the hostel premises. The confrontation reportedly escalated into a misunderstanding, resulting in the alleged assault.

The incident, which was captured on video and widely shared on social media, sparked outrage among some students. Police say angry students allegedly pelted stones at the suspect and invited some youth from the community to the school hostel in an attempt to attack him.
The situation was, however, brought under control through the swift intervention of a police patrol team, preventing further disturbances and possible escalation of the incident.

The victim has been issued with a Police Medical Report Form to facilitate medical examination and treatment, while the suspect remains in police custody assisting investigators with ongoing inquiries into the matter.
The Ashanti Regional Police Command has appealed to the public to remain calm and allow the law to take its course, stressing the need for lawful and peaceful means of resolving grievances and disputes.
