The Sekyere-Kumawu District Assembly has officially rolled out the “Nkoko Nketenkete” Empowerment Programme, a community-based initiative designed to promote economic self-reliance and reduce poverty across the district.
The programme, spearheaded by the District Chief Executive, Hon. Kwasi Amankwaah, focuses on providing practical tools and resources to beneficiaries, especially women, youth and vulnerable persons, to enable them engage in sustainable income-generating activities.
Speaking at the launch, Hon. Amankwaah emphasised that empowerment must go beyond handouts and translate into long-term economic stability. He urged beneficiaries to use the support responsibly and invest wisely to ensure sustained benefits for their households and communities.
The “Nkoko Nketenkete” initiative centres on poultry farming, with beneficiaries receiving live birds and guidance to kick-start or expand small-scale poultry ventures. Officials explained that the choice of poultry was informed by its affordability, quick returns and suitability for both rural and peri-urban settings.
Hon. Amankwaah reaffirmed the Assembly’s commitment to supporting similar empowerment programmes, noting that economic independence at the household level is critical to strengthening families and accelerating local development.
He further acknowledged the role of traditional authorities, community leaders and development partners, whose collaboration has been instrumental in bringing the initiative to life. Beneficiaries were encouraged to remain disciplined, hardworking and accountable in order to maximise the impact of the programme.
The “Nkoko Nketenkete” Empowerment Programme forms part of the district’s broader development agenda to promote inclusive growth, reduce poverty and build resilient communities through practical, people-centred interventions.
