On 7th January 2026, Ghana, through the Ministry of Sports and Recreation, hosted officials from Ghana Athletics and the Confederation of African Athletics (CAA) for the official signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to host the 24th African Senior Athletics Championships in Accra.
The 24th African Senior Athletics Championships is scheduled to take place in May 2026.

According to Hon. Kofi Iddie Adams, the signing of the MoU reflects Ghana’s growing credibility as a trusted destination for major continental sports events. He indicated that the nation is optimistic that the championship will not only bring the best of African athletics to Accra but also inspire a new generation of Ghanaian athletes.
Hon. Adams expressed gratitude to CAA President Hamad Kalkaba Malboum, Ghana Athletics, the National Sports Authority, and all technical teams working to make Accra 2026 a historic championship.
