The programme, approved for nationwide implementation, is to give opportunity to non-professional teachers especially those working in private basic and secondary schools to gain the competencies required for improved teaching performance. It will also open the way for them to apply for Teaching License as required by law (Act 1023 of Parliament)

According to education authorities, the course is structured to be short, flexible, practical, supportive, yet standardized for teachers who are already working. Participants will receive essential training in classroom management, assessment, lesson planning, and modern teaching methods.

Registration for the short course is currently open and will officially close on November 30. Private school owners are encouraged to inform their staff early to avoid last-minute rush and ensure their teachers benefit from this professional upgrade opportunity.

This initiative is expected to significantly improve learning outcomes in private schools, where the majority of non-professional teachers are employed.

To facilitate the transition, the National Teaching Council has partnered with public Universities: UCC, UEW, AAMUSTED, and UDS to run a 16–20 week fast-track PGDE programme at a subsidized cost of GH₵5,000 for the entire course.

Additionally, T-TEL, a Non-governmental education policy advisor will offer financial support for eligible teachers under age 35.
