Kumawu Education Directorate Host Zonal Cultural Programme

The Sekyere Kumawu District Education Directorate hosted the 2025 Zonal Cultural Programme on Friday, July 11, 2025, at Tweneboa Kodua SHS. The event was held under the theme: “Cultural Education: Empowering, Preserving Culture.”

The five participating districts were: Sekyere Kumawu (host), Sekyere Central, Sekyere East, Mampong Municipal, and Ejura Sekyeredumase District.

The programme was attended by several distinguished personalities, including Mr. Kwame Oduro-Owusu, District Education Director for Sekyere Kumawu; Hon. Kwesi Amankwaa, the District Chief Executive (DCE) for Kumawu District; Mampong Municipal Education Director; Mr. Michael Amponsah, Headmaster of Tweneboa Kodua SHS; the District Police Commander, among others.

Mr. Kwame Oduro-Owusu welcomed all attendees to the programme. In his address, he emphasized the importance of culture to the identity of Ghanaians. He encouraged students, especially the participants, to learn from the various cultural activities showcased during the event.

Hon. Kwesi Amankwaa, the DCE for Kumawu, also delivered a brief speech, stressing the significance of culture and the need to preserve it. He further appealed to students and stakeholders to embrace agriculture, as envisioned by the government.

Some of the activities featured during the programme included poetry recitals, still-life drawing, culinary arts, exhibitions, drum language, traditional dance, choral music, among others.

Kumawu emerged first in two events – Ampe Competition and Drum Language – and secured second and third places in other categories.

The pupils showcased their talents and skills across all disciplines. Although Kumawu, the host district, performed commendably, Mampong Municipal stood out by clinching first place in most of the events.

The Directorate expressed its heartfelt appreciation to all participating districts, Kumawu DEO staff, Regional and District Culture Coordinators, headteachers, teachers, and most importantly, the students who took part in the various competitions.
