He stated that he was “very impressed” with the nation’s development and the warmth shown by the Ghanaian people throughout his stay. The report indicated that the meeting featured both serious and light hearted moments, including Joshua presenting President Mahama with a signed boxing glove. In a humorous exchange, President Mahama threw a playful uppercut which drew laughter from the room and highlighted the easy rapport between the two public figures.
The meeting also touched on broader issues beyond sports, particularly the role of athletic excellence in youth empowerment, economic growth, and regional unity. President Mahama emphasized the importance of creating infrastructure to harness young talent and pledged renewed support for reviving major sporting projects most notably the Bukom Boxing Arena, a venue long seen as a cornerstone for Ghana’s boxing heritage.
According to the report, the renowned Ghanaian businessman Ibrahim Mahama, brother of the president Mahama, presented Joshua with a Honda CRF450R motorbike estimated to be worth close to $10,000. The gift served not only as sportsman but also a remodel for the African youth.
