WAEC to Release Private BECE Results Friday, September 5

The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has confirmed that results for the 2025 private Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) will be released today, September 5.

At a press briefing, WAEC’s Head of Public Affairs, John Kapi, said candidates could access their results by the close of day. “The results of BECE for private candidates will be released by the close of today, September 5, 2025,” he announced.

This year’s BECE, covering both school and private candidates, was held between June 11 and June 18. A total of 603,328 students from 20,395 schools sat for the school examination, made up of 297,250 boys and 306,078 girls.

For the private examination, 1,661 candidates registered, including 858 males and 803 females. WAEC noted a 19.49% rise in the number of private candidates compared to last year, while school candidates saw a 5.99% increase.

The results for school candidates were released earlier on August 23. WAEC said some candidates who breached examination regulations had been sanctioned after investigations and recommendations from the Council’s disciplinary committee.

Education stakeholders are watching closely as the release of results marks a key moment for thousands of young people seeking to continue their education.
