The University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA) has announced its decision to introduce Coding (Machine Learning) as a compulsory course for all undergraduate students.
This bold initiative was disclosed by Prof. John Kwaku Mensah Mawutor, the Vice-Chancellor of UPSA, during an orientation programme for fresh students on Monday, January 27, 2025.
According to Prof. Mawutor, introduction of the coding is aimed at equipping UPSA graduates with essential IT and computer programming skills, ensuring they remain competitive in the fast-changing digital economy. He emphasized that in today’s world, proficiency in coding is no longer a skill reserved for computer science students but a crucial competency for all professionals.
He further explained that the university’s objective is to create an academic environment where every student, regardless of their programme of study, acquires basic coding skills. This, he believes, will empower students across various disciplines – including business, law, and social sciences, among others.
Prof. Mawutor emphasized that coding and machine learning are shaping industries worldwide, and UPSA wants to ensure its students are well-prepared for this transformation.
