The Royal Commonwealth Society has launched its prestigious annual essay competition, calling on young people across the Commonwealth countries including Ghana to lend their voices to global conversations through creative and critical writing.
This year’s theme, “Our Commonwealth Journey,” encourages students to reflect on the concept of journeys be personal, cultural, or historical within the context of the Commonwealth. The competition aims to inspire young people to consider the paths taken by nations, communities, and individuals in an ever-evolving world. The competition is open to students from Junior High Schools (JHS) and Senior High Schools (SHS), with entries expected by 23rd May 2025.
In a boost to participation, the Ghana Education Service (GES) has issued an official letter urging schools to encourage their students to take part. The letter emphasizes the importance of the competition in enhancing writing, creativity, and global awareness among learners.

Students will compete in two categories:
The Senior Category is for those born between 23 May 2006 and 23 May 2011 (14-18 years of age)
The Junior Category is for those Born on or after 23 May 2011 (under 14 years of age)
Eligible students must submit their essays online via competition@royalcwsociety.org by 23rd May, 2025 and students must carefully follow the guidelines provided on the official website https://www.royalcwsociety.org/essay-competition/
Winners will gain international recognition, with top entries often published and awarded at a ceremony in London. The competition is the world’s oldest international schools writing contest, having run for over 140 years.
