The Minister for Education, Honourable Haruna Iddrisu, has called on the Chartered Institute of Human Resource Management (CIHRM) to lead the national effort in addressing declining work ethic and rising indiscipline in both public and private sector institutions.

The Minister delivering the keynote address at the CIHRM 2025 Conference in Accra, June 18, he voiced concern over growing trends such as excessive use of social media during working hours, chronic lateness, and absenteeism, practices he said are quietly undermining productivity and professionalism across the country.
“Our institutions are increasingly affected by a culture of distraction. As HR professionals, you have the responsibility to instill values of discipline, focus, and ethical conduct in the Ghanaian workplace.” Education Minister.
The conference held under the theme “Regulating Human Resource Management in Ghana: Standards, Ethics and Sustainability,” the conference brought together human resource practitioners, government officials, and business leaders to explore forward-thinking strategies for developing Ghana’s workforce.
Hon. Iddrisu emphasized that, as the regulatory body for HR practice in Ghana, CIHRM is uniquely positioned to shape workplace behaviour and drive national productivity through clear standards and ethical frameworks.
He also urged the Institute to take a more proactive role in Ghana’s legislative and policy-making process, stressing that their technical knowledge and professional insights are essential in developing strong, enforceable labour laws that reflect the realities of modern employment.
“You are not just managing people, you are building cultures, shaping attitudes, and laying the foundation for sustainable growth in every sector.” Hon. Haruna Iddrisu, Education Minister
The Minister reaffirmed the government’s commitment to supporting the Institute’s work and emphasised that Ghana’s journey towards improved productivity and workplace harmony depends largely on how well HR professionals guide and inspire the people behind the systems.
