Students of Bodomase St. Stephen Roman Catholic Junior High School in the Sekyere-Kumawu District Education Directorate have demonstrated creativity and practical skills by designing and producing Christmas dressing bags using locally sourced fabric, as part of a hands-on educational activity aimed at nurturing innovation and self-reliance.
The initiative formed part of the school’s efforts to integrate practical skill development into teaching and learning, while also promoting the use of indigenous materials. Through the activity, students were encouraged to appreciate local craftsmanship and explore creative expression beyond the classroom.
The exercise was led by Madam Patience Eghan, the Girl Child Coordinator of the school, who guided and trained the female students throughout the design and sewing process. She provided step-by-step instruction, ensuring that each participant actively engaged in the production of the bags.

Madam Eghan explained that the activity was designed to equip the girls with basic vocational skills, build their confidence, and inspire creativity. She noted that such initiatives help learners discover hidden talents and develop practical abilities that can support their future aspirations.
The students expressed excitement and pride in their work, describing the experience as both educational and enjoyable. Many said the activity had sparked a deeper interest in creative arts and craftsmanship, while also teaching them the value of patience, teamwork and innovation.
The Headmaster of the school, Mr. Jude Owusu Brefo, commended the initiative and applauded the dedication of both the students and the facilitator. He emphasised the importance of complementing academic learning with practical skills that prepare students for real-life challenges.
The colourful Christmas dressing bags produced by the students reflected not only their creativity but also the school’s commitment to holistic education, cultural preservation and the empowerment of young learners through skill-based learning.
