Johnson Asiedu Nketia, widely known as General Mosquito, who serves as the National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has outlined six conditions that must be addressed by the Peace Council before the NDC agrees to sign the 2024 Peace Pact.
Asiedu Nketia emphasized the importance of these conditions, stating that it is essential for the Peace Council to thoroughly examine and resolve these issues to ensure a fair and impartial stance from the NDC. The conditions are aimed at addressing significant concerns that the NDC believes must be tackled to maintain the integrity of the electoral process and uphold democratic principles.
The six conditions presented by the NDC to the Peace Council are as follows:
- Full Implementation of the Ayawaso Commission’s Recommendations: The NDC insists that all recommendations from the Ayawaso Commission must be fully implemented to address past electoral violence and ensure justice.
- Prosecution of Those Responsible for Killings During the 2020 Election: There is a demand for the prosecution of individuals who were involved in the violent incidents and killings that occurred during the 2020 elections.
- Prosecution of Individuals Involved in Illegal Printing of Ballot Papers: The NDC calls for legal action against those implicated in the illegal printing of ballot papers, which in a way undermines the electoral process.
- Transparent and Public Resolution of Missing Equipment at the EC’s Office: The NDC seeks a transparent and public resolution regarding the missing equipment from the Electoral Commission’s office, ensuring that the public is adequately informed.
- Public Declaration by the President to Accept the Will of the People in the 2024 General Elections: The NDC requests a public statement from the President affirming his commitment to accepting the results of the 2024 elections, reflecting respect for democratic outcomes.
- Signatures from Key Officials on the Document: The conditions also include obtaining signatures from the President, Chief Justice, Attorney General, and Inspector General of Police (IGP) on the peace pact document.
Mr. Asiedu Nketia asserted that if the Peace Council addresses these conditions satisfactorily, the NDC will be in a position to sign the peace pact, thereby contributing to a peaceful and credible electoral process.
