South Dayi MP, Rockson Nelson Dafeamekpor, has filed a defamation lawsuit against Assin South MP, Reverend John Ntim Fordjour, over a social media post that he claims has severely damaged his reputation.
The suit, lodged at the High Court, is in response to a post made by Rev. Fordjour on May 8, 2025, on social media platform X (formerly Twitter). In the post, Rev. Fordjour accused Mr. Dafeamekpor – who he described as Vice Chairman of Parliament’s Subsidiary Legislation Committee – of owing Ghanaians answers over some alleged financial payments. He also called for a probe and suggested that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) had benefited from the monies while in opposition.

Mr. Dafeamekpor, who currently serves as the Majority Chief Whip in Parliament, denies the accusations and clarified in the suit that he was not even a member of the Subsidiary Legislation Committee in December 2023, the period in question.
Describing the comments as “false and malicious,” the South Dayi MP said they were made with reckless disregard for the truth. He argues that the post has caused serious damage to his character, public image, and political career.
In his writ, Mr. Dafeamekpor is seeking several reliefs, including:
- A declaration that the statements made by Rev. Fordjour are defamatory
- An interlocutory and perpetual injunction restraining further publications
- A retraction and public apology in print and on social media
- Damages exceeding GH₵30 million
- Aggravated, punitive, and compensatory damages
- Legal costs and any other relief the court finds just
He contends that the publication was deliberately intended to erode public trust and that the content’s permanence online has intensified the damage to his reputation.
