H.E. John Dramani Mahama, the President of the Republic of Ghana, has successfully submitted his completed Asset Declaration forms to the Auditor-General.
The submission took place on Tuesday, February 18, 2025.
The President emphasized that this simple yet significant task of asset declaration is mandatory under Article 286 of the 1992 Constitution and the Public Office Holders (Declaration of Assets and Disqualifications) Act, 1998 (Act 550).
He stressed that by publicly presenting the forms, he aims to promote openness and transparency in the asset declaration process. He argued that while punishing corruption is commendable, a more effective approach to addressing the issue is to prevent it from occurring in the first place.
He further stated that if this step is properly implemented and enforced, the asset declaration process can serve as a sustainable tool for combating corruption.
Mr. Mahama also took the opportunity to send an unequivocal message to all public office holders, particularly those he has appointed, that he regards the declaration of assets with utmost seriousness and expects full compliance from them.
