President John Dramani Mahama has outlined his vision for transforming Ghana’s economy during the 2025 Kwahu Business Forum held in Mpraeso. Speaking to an audience of entrepreneurs, investors, and business leaders, the President focused on the key role of the financial sector in creating jobs and driving growth.
President Mahama acknowledged the challenges Ghana has faced, including rising inflation, a weakened cedi, and higher debt levels. Despite these setbacks, he highlighted signs of improvement, such as lower inflation, and expressed optimism about the country’s economic recovery.
“The financial sector is the lifeblood of any economy,” he said, stressing the need for it to support businesses of all sizes. He also called for a shift from simply recovering to transforming the economy. His vision for Ghana is to create an economy that is resilient, inclusive, and productive, benefiting both local businesses and foreign investors.
The President shared a series of initiatives designed to support this transformation:
*Providing more help to small and medium-sized businesses (SMEs) through targeted funding and tax incentives.
*Expanding affordable financing options for businesses through institutions like the Ghana Development Bank and the Women Development Bank.
*Improving infrastructure, such as roads and digital services, to help businesses grow.
*Lowering borrowing costs by reforming credit systems and promoting new financial tools.
He also introduced plans to create a national venture capital fund to help youth and women-led businesses. “Financial inclusion will be at the heart of this agenda,” he said, emphasizing that no economy can succeed when large parts of the population are excluded from financial services.
In addition to strengthening financial systems, President Mahama stressed the importance of digital and green economies. He revealed plans for a 24-Hour Economy strategy, which aims to make it easier for businesses to operate around the clock, boosting productivity and creating more job opportunities.
The President also introduced a new Jobs and Skills Compact, which will align education with job market needs and support young entrepreneurs.
Concluding his address, President Mahama urged everyone to work together to make Ghana a competitive, innovative, and inclusive country. “The future of Ghana will not be determined by government alone,” he said. “It will be determined by how we all work together.”
The 2025 Kwahu Business Forum has once again proven to be an essential platform for discussing the future of business and the economy in Ghana.
