President John Dramani Mahama has declared three days of national mourning following the tragic helicopter crash that claimed the lives of eight individuals, including the Minister for Defence, Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, and the Minister for Environment, Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed.

In a solemn statement issued Wednesday evening, 6th August, 2025 the President announced the immediate suspension of all his scheduled activities and public engagements for the remainder of the week. The mourning period is set to begin tomorrow, Thursday, 7th August 2025.
The decision comes in the wake of a devastating military helicopter crash near Adansi Akrofuom in the Ashanti Region. The Ghana Armed Forces Z9 aircraft, which had gone off radar en route to Obuasi, was later found with no survivors. Among the deceased were government officials, senior security personnel, and the flight crew.
“This is a moment of immense sorrow for our nation,” President Mahama said. “We have lost true patriots who dedicated their lives to public service and the defence of our country.”

As part of the mourning arrangements, all flags across the country will fly at half-mast, and government institutions have been directed to observe the protocols in honour of the fallen statesmen.

The President extended his condolences to the families of the victims and called on the country to stand together in grief and solidarity. He assured Ghanaians of a full-scale investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash.
Preparations are underway for a state burial to honour the eight individuals who perished in the line of duty.
