Parliament of Ghana, under the leadership of Rt. Hon. Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, will officially launch the second edition of the Democracy Cup on Thursday, 24th July 2025 at Parliament House in Accra.
The Democracy Cup, a unique initiative by Parliament, seeks to strengthen Ghana’s democratic culture by using football as a tool for civic engagement, national unity, and youth involvement. It also serves as a symbol of peace and inclusiveness, bringing together Members of Parliament, citizens, and stakeholders to celebrate the country’s democratic values.
This year’s launch promises a more vibrant and inclusive event, building on the successes of the maiden edition. It will highlight the role of sports in promoting unity and dialogue, especially among the youth. Football, with its power to connect people across social and political divides, has proven to be an effective means of promoting democratic participation.

The ceremony will feature the Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Alban Bagbin, along with other parliamentary leaders, sports officials, and members of civil society. They are expected to share reflections on how democratic values can be fostered through meaningful social interventions like the Democracy Cup.
The Parliament of Ghana remains committed to deepening democratic awareness and inclusiveness, and the Democracy Cup is a reflection of this commitment where governance, sports, and civic education come together in a powerful way.
