Otumfuo Community Reading Challenge Knockout Stage Set to Start on August 26

The second phase of the Otumfuo Community Reading Challenge (OCRC), known as the knockout stage, is scheduled to start from August 26, 2024, and will run until September 6, 2024. This phase marks an exciting progression in the competition, building on the enthusiasm and success of the initial stage.

Contestants and Grouping

This stage will feature 60 contestants, comprising winners from the 43 districts within the Ashanti Regional Education Directorate and winners from 13 selected communities in the Ashanti region of Ghana. These winners have been divided into 20 groups (contests), with each group consisting of three contestants who will compete against each other. This grouping ensures a structured and competitive environment, allowing for a fair and engaging contest.

The Objective and Leadership of the OCRC

The OCRC is spearheaded by the Otumfuo Osei Tutu II Foundation. In the first stage, learners demonstrated their prowess and skill in reading both Asante Twi and English Language within the 43 districts and 13 communities. This initiative emphasizes the importance of literacy and aims to instill a love for reading among young people in the region.

Venue for the Knockout Stage

The knockout stage will take place at the Prempeh College Assembly Hall. This venue is expected to provide a conducive environment for the participants to perform at their best. Who Qualifies for the OCRC Final Stage?

Only the five best students will be selected to move forward to the final stage of the competition. These exceptional readers will have the honor of competing in the final stage, which is scheduled to be held at the Mahyia Palace. This grand finale will be a significant event, and will be attended by Otumfuo Osei Tutu II and other important personalities.Their attendance will add prestige to the occasion, highlighting the importance of education and the value placed on this reading challenge.

Awards and Presentations

The best three learners will be awarded and given other presentations. The overall best reader will be crowned as the 2024 winner of the Otumfuo Community Reading Challenge and will receive a scholarship for his or her tertiary education.
