The National Media Commission (NMC) has reaffirmed the renewal of Prof. Amin Alhassan’s appointment as Director-General of the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC). The Commission has cited concerns over recent media reports suggesting that some employees of the GBC were unaware of the decision.
In an official communication signed by Executive Secretary George Sarpong, the NMC clarified that the renewal, effective February 26, 2024, had already been announced during the introduction of GBC’s new Board way back on August 13, 2024.
However, fresh agitation within the Corporation has prompted the Commission to call for urgent steps to inform all staff.
GBC Staff Protests
Tension has been brewing within GBC as reports surfaced of internal dissatisfaction over Prof. Alhassan’s leadership. Some employees had reportedly called for an investigation into his tenure, unaware that his contract had already been renewed. The NMC’s latest statement is seen as an effort to restore order and prevent further discontent.
We shall be grateful if you could take steps to inform all staff of the Corporation

Prof. Amin Alhassan

Prof. Alhassan, a seasoned development communication expert, has overseen a period of transformation at GBC. The NMC expressed hope that the Corporation’s progress—driven by the foresight of the Board, management’s ingenuity, and staff dedication—would be sustained.
Question GH Education is asking is this:
Will the internal tensions at GBC subside following the NMC’s clarification, or is this the beginning of a deeper crisis?
With the latest reaffirmation, the ball is now in the court of GBC’s leadership to ensure effective communication with employees and prevent further unrest.
The coming days will determine whether the Corporation can move past this phase or if further controversy looms.
GH Education is standing by keenly to update you on any hint that drops…
