In a historic, pupils of Nkwanta A.M.E. Zion Primary School in the Sekyere Kumawu District embarked on an educational excursion that took them to Manhyia Palace, Nana Agyeman Prempeh I International Airport, and the Kumasi Mall on Thursday, 17th April, 2025.
The trip, described as a groundbreaking learning experience, was designed to bridge the gap between classroom knowledge and real-world exposure.
The Headteacher, Mr. Seth Amankwah-Appau, who led the initiative, explained the motivation behind the excursion, that “The purpose is to let the learners explore the rich history of the Ashanti Kingdom. We also visited the airport to help the pupils understand how flights take off and land, and to inspire them with dreams of becoming pilots or air hostesses.”
At the Manhyia Palace, students immersed themselves in Ashanti culture, learning about the heritage and influence of one of Ghana’s most powerful kingdoms. The visit to Prempeh International Airport offered hands-on exposure to aviation processes and etiquette — a rare opportunity for many of the children.
The final stop was the Kumasi Mall, where pupils observed the dynamics of modern business operations. Mr. Amankwah-Appau emphasized that the visit was aimed at enhancing practical learning and giving pupils a clearer understanding of what they are taught in school.
“This educational trip will go a long way to enhance teaching and learning. It helps the pupils connect what we teach in the classroom to real-life experiences,” he said.
The headteacher expressed deep appreciation to the school staff and parents whose support made the trip possible.
For many of the pupils, this was their first excursion — an experience they will never forget.
