MTN Assures Customers: “Your MoMo Wallets Are Safe”

MTN Ghana has assured customers that its Mobile Money (MoMo) service is safe and secure. This comes after weeks of social media reports and rumors suggesting that the company’s system had been hacked and that customers’ wallets were at risk.

In a message shared with users, MTN strongly denied any system compromise. “No customer wallet has been affected,” the statement said, urging users to disregard such claims.

The company reminded customers to stay alert and protect their accounts by following these important tips:

  • Never share your MoMo PIN or OTP (one-time password).
  • Do not click on strange or suspicious links.
  • Don’t respond to unexpected calls asking for your MoMo details.

It would be recalled that in recent weeks, various social media platforms were filled with claims that MTN’s servers had been breached, putting customers’ personal data and funds at risk.

Some users even claimed they had lost money from their wallets. Is MTN’s latest communication only meant to calm fears and stop the spread of news?

The company says it continues to work around the clock to keep its systems secure and protect users.
