Honourable Fatimatu Abubakar, the Minister for Information, has emphasized the strategic importance of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in modern journalism. She urged media owners and managers to recognize this potential and invest in the training for their staff.
This appeal was made by Hon. Fatimatu Abubakar during the 75th Anniversary Commemorative Lecture Series held at the La Palm Royal Beach Hotel in Accra on Thursday, 15th August 2024.
In her address, Hon. Fatimatu Abubakar highlighted the transformative impact AI can have on the newsroom, noting that it is not just a tool but a necessity for the future of journalism. She encouraged journalists to engage in continuous learning about AI, stressing that staying informed about technological advancements is key to remaining relevant in the rapidly evolving media landscape.
“AI offers journalists the ability to tell more compelling and refined stories,” Hon. Abubakar stated, emphasizing that the effective use of AI can significantly enhance the accuracy and precision of information shared with a global audience. She pointed out that AI tools can assist journalists in analyzing data more efficiently, uncovering insights that might otherwise be overlooked, and presenting stories in a way that engages readers.
The Minister also highlighted the importance of AI in ensuring that journalism remains a powerful force for truth and accountability. She stressed that by embracing AI, journalists can not only improve their storytelling techniques but also ensure that their reports are more aligned with the expectations of a digitally-savvy audience.
Hon. Abubakar expressed the Ministry of Information’s unwavering commitment to strengthening ties with the Ghana Journalists Association.
