In the wake of the devastating fire at Adum-PZ in Kumasi, the Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr. Frank Amoakohene, along with the Director-General of the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), visited the site to assess the damage and engage with affected traders. Recognizing the profound emotional and economic impact on these individuals, the government has pledged unwavering support during this challenging period.
Immediate Relief Efforts
To address the urgent needs of those affected, the government, through NADMO and the Ministry of Interior, has distributed essential items, including 1,500 bags of rice, 800 boxes of cooking oil, and 1,000 boxes of soap. These provisions aim to restore a sense of normalcy and hope among traders who have lost their livelihoods.
Financial Assistance Mobilized
In addition to material support, a total of GHC 600,000 has been mobilized within 24 hours to aid the affected traders. This includes a generous donation of GHC 500,000 from a philanthropist and an immediate relief package of GHC 100,000 to assist the most vulnerable victims.
President John Dramani Mahama has extended his sympathies to the victims and directed NADMO to provide immediate assistance. He has also engaged with the Chief of Staff and the Ashanti Regional Minister to explore further financial support for the traders.
