The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has provided an update on the release of the 2024 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) results and has addressed concerns of the delays.
The examination which started on August 5, 2024, and ended on September 20, 2024, proceeded successfully. According to WAEC, the marking of essays and practical papers was completed between November 7 and November 29, 2024. However, the scanning of objective answer cards initially scheduled from November 1 to November 30, has faced delays due to the breakdown of the councils’ scanners meant for the process.
According to WAEC, repairs of the scanners are on hold due to pending the release of an outstanding balance of GHc 118,000,000.00 from the Ministry of Education. This funding is required to resolve technical issues and ensure the smooth continuation of all post-examination activities.
WAEC also extended an appeal to its examination officials and suppliers urging them to exercise patience as the Council works to secure the necessary funds for payments. The Council reassured its stakeholders that these payments would be made as soon as the Ministry releases the outstanding funds. The council responded to false information circulating on social media regarding the release date of the 2024 WASSCE results and they advised the public to ignore such claims. The Council confirmed that the results would only be published after all challenges with post-examination processes are addressed.
WAEC emphasized its commitment to maintaining high standards and ensuring the integrity of the examination results. Candidates and stakeholders are urged to remain patient and trust the Council’s efforts to resolve the current issues swiftly.
