Ghana Education Service to Investigate Alleged Examination Malpractice in 2025 BECE

The Ghana Education Service (GES) has confirmed that it will investigate reports of alleged examination malpractice in the ongoing 2025 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE).

In a statement issued on Sunday, 7th September 2025, and signed by the Head of Public Relations, Daniel Fenyi, the Service acknowledged media reports, particularly from JoyNews TV, which suggested possible cheating incidents had taken place.

The GES said it would obtain and thoroughly review the full documentary together with original transcripts before initiating a comprehensive investigation into the matter.

Management reaffirmed its uncompromising stance against examination malpractice, stressing that cheating undermines the integrity of the education system, erodes meritocracy, and risks producing graduates without the skills required for national development.

The statement further noted that the GES, with the full support of the Minister for Education, Hon. Haruna Iddrisu, and the GES Council, will sanction any teaching or non-teaching staff found guilty of aiding or abetting malpractice. Such individuals, the Service warned, would face severe disciplinary measures in accordance with existing laws and regulations.

The GES also assured all stakeholders of its commitment to safeguarding the credibility of examinations and pledged to work closely with the West African Examinations Council (WAEC), National Security, and law enforcement agencies to address the challenge.
