Ghana Education Service Orders Nkwanta SHS Headmaster, Mr Solomon Sarpong Bagmae to Step Aside

The Ghana Education Service (GES) has directed the Headmaster of Nkwanta Senior High School in the Oti Region, Mr. Solomon Sarpong Bagmae, to step aside from his role with immediate effect.

The decision, communicated in an official letter signed by Acting Regional Director Irene Jacquelinda Aftabra, follows allegations that Mr. Bagmae engaged the media without authorisation on 4 August 2025. During the interaction, he reportedly appealed for public assistance to help feed students sitting the ongoing West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).

GES stated that the headmaster’s actions had not been approved by the relevant authorities and were in breach of established communication protocols.

As part of the directive, Mr. Bagmae has been instructed to cease performing all official duties, refrain from making public statements or granting interviews on the matter, and hand over school property and administrative responsibilities to the Oti Regional Director of Education.

The Service said the move was necessary to ensure an “independent and impartial” investigation into the incident.

Mr. Bagmae will remain on the sidelines until the probe is concluded, after which the GES will issue further instructions.

The Ghana Education Service has not indicated when the investigation will be completed.
