Ghana Catholic Bishops Conference Engages Interior Minister Muntaka on Peacebuilding Efforts

A delegation from the Ghana Catholic Bishops Conference on Wednesday, July 9, paid a courtesy call on the Minister for the Interior, Hon. Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, to discuss collaborative efforts aimed at promoting peace and stability in the region.

The delegation, led by Rev. Fr. Michael Quaicoo, Director of Governance, Justice and Peace at the National Catholic Secretariat, outlined key peacebuilding programmes being spearheaded by Caritas Ghana, the development and humanitarian arm of the Catholic Church, including the flagship Sahel Peace Initiative.

Rev. Fr. Quaicoo explained that the Sahel Peace Initiative is a comprehensive effort to address the root causes of conflict, promote peaceful coexistence, and enhance social cohesion among communities in Ghana and neighbouring Sahelian countries affected by instability.

He emphasised that the Catholic Church remains committed to fostering constructive dialogue, mutual understanding, and sustainable peace through partnerships with government institutions, civil society, and international stakeholders.

Hon. Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak welcomed the initiative and commended the Catholic Church for its continued role in national development. He assured the delegation of the Ministry’s readiness to collaborate with Caritas Ghana and other faith-based organisations in advancing peace and security efforts across the country.

The engagement marks a deepening of inter-institutional cooperation between religious organisations and state authorities in safeguarding national cohesion and promoting inclusive development.
