GES Rolls Out National Refresher Training for STEM Teachers and Coordinators

The Ghana Education Service (GES), through its National STEM Resource Unit, is set to conduct a national refresher training programme for selected Regional and District STEM Coordinators and teachers. This initiative forms part of the ongoing efforts to enhance the delivery and impact of the Basic Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (BSTEM) project, which began in 2018.

The BSTEM project, a collaboration between the Ministry of Education and ITEC Global, seeks to embed modern STEM teaching approaches and equipment into Ghana’s basic education system. This next phase will focus on empowering educators with the skills and confidence to effectively use new STEM tools, adopt innovative teaching strategies, and serve as Master Trainers in their respective districts.

The training is scheduled as follows:

Arrival: Monday, 18th August 2025

Departure: Thursday, 28th August 2025

Venue: Catholic University of Ghana, Fiapre – Sunyani

Arrival Time: 4:00 pm (Dinner will be served on the day of arrival)

Regional Directors of Education are kindly requested to nominate one District STEM Coordinator and one teacher from each district. To ensure subject diversity, if the STEM Coordinator has a background in mathematics, the teacher nominated should have a background in science, and vice versa. These individuals will undergo training to become Master Trainers for the BSTEM programme.

All nominations are to be submitted using the official Google form by Thursday, 7th August 2025 via this link:

The GES emphasizes the importance of this training as a means of equipping educators with 21st-century instructional tools and fostering student interest and achievement in STEM disciplines.

Participants are expected to return to their districts equipped not only with knowledge but with the capacity to lead STEM education transformation at the grassroots level. “This training is not just about skills it’s about shaping the future of education in Ghana,” said Mrs. Olivia Serwaa Opare, Director of the National STEM Resource Unit. “We count on the commitment of our educators to take this knowledge back to their communities and inspire change.”
